On December 25, officials from China and Pakistan met in Urumqi for the second meeting of the Joint Working Group on International Cooperation and Coordination under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor or CPEC.
The meeting was aimed at taking stock of the CPEC as it turns five. CPEC is a clutch of projects with an estimated value of $62 billion.
It is China’s most ambitious Belt and Road Initiative project that aims to build a network of roads, railway lines and power projects throughout Pakistan.
It also aims at strengthening the economic ties between China and Pakistan. By the end of 2018, according to the Chinese government, 22 early harvest projects were completed or were under construction, with a total investment of $18.9 billion.

Gilgit-Baltistan [PoK] January 6 (ANI): A protest broke out in the Gilgit-Baltistan region illegally occupied by Pakistan on Wednesday over arson at Karakoram International University.
The protesting youths were engineering aspirants whose hopes and dreams were killed overnight. The under-construction engineering department of the Karakoram International University was set on fire by some unknown people, and this has deprived them of technical education and a better future.
Talking to ANI, a protester expressed anguish over the arson and requested the government to take stern action against the miscreants.

JAMMU: Security forces Sunday recovered a cache of arms and ammunition near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police officer said.
This was the third round of recovery of arms and ammunition in the district following the busting of a three-member module of Jammu and Kashmir Gazanvi Force.
Poonch Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Angral said the fresh recovery has been made during a search and cordon operation from Dabbi village along the LoC in Balakote sector.
The recovery include one pistol, three magazines, 35 bullets and five hand grenades, he said.
