The south-western city, leased to the China Overseas Port Holding Company for 40 years as a Long Term Plan (LTP) for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), not only serves as a port of exit for minerals from Balochistan but is also of a great strategic interest to China under its ambitious and expansionist Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project.

Citing data by National Command and Operation Center, Geo News reported that 70 of 105 new COVID-19 patients were on ventilators. Sindh reported the highest number of COVID-19 deaths with 58 people dying in 24 hours. Punjab reported 30 deaths and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 12. Islamabad and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir reported two fatalities each and one person died in Balochistan. Since the beginning of December, at least 919 people died of coronavirus with a daily average of 61.22 deaths.

MUMBAI: The legislative assembly on Tuesday extended the time for the privileges committee to submit its report on breach of privilege notices against Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami and actor Kangana Ranaut till the end of budget session, which may be scheduled in February or March 2021.
