Pakistan cuts inbound flights by 80 percent

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority on Wednesday slashed 80 inbound flights in the light of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) directives to curb the surge of third wave of COVID-19 in the country, Dunya News reported.
According to sources, the restrictions will remain imposed till May 20 while the current sanctions plan will be reviewed on May 18.
Due to prevailing global and regional disease trends, Pakistan has decided to reduce inbound international travel from 5 May to 20th May. International flights to Pakistan will be reduced to 20 per cent during this period.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Monday extended standard operating procedures (SOPs) for international passengers, chartered and private aircraft flights to Pakistan on Monday.
As per the notification, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has extended standard operating procedures (SOPs) till July 5. The SOPs will be implemented at all airports of the country.
The SOPs have been divided into three categories including A, B and C by the aviation authority, according to the notification issued by CAA’s director air transport. According to the notification, travel to Pakistan from Category C countries is completely banned.

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: The new coronavirus strain sweeping the United Kingdom has been detected in Pakistan, the Sindh health department announced, after test samples of people who travelled from Britain suggested a “95 per cent match” with the highly infections variant.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the Sindh Health and Population Welfare Department said 12 Covid-19 samples of United Kingdom returnees were taken for genotyping out of which six tested positive and three showed the new variant of the Covid-19 in the first phase.
“The genotyping showed 95 per cent match of the new variant from the UK,” it said. The samples will go through another phase of genotyping, the health department added. Contact tracing of those patients was under way and their contacts were being isolated as well, it said.
