PPMA team visits FPCCI

LAHORE: A delegation of the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) led by Chairman (North) Muhammad Khalid Munir called on Khawaja Shahzeb Akram, senior vice president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) at the FPCCI Regional Office in Lahore, a statement said on Tuesday.
The PPMA members briefed the FPCCI official on the issues being faced by the pharmaceutical industry.
The meeting discussed common technical dossiers, pricing, and other issues being faced by the pharmaceutical industry, it said. Akram assured the PPMA leadership of full FPCCI support in resolving the issues.
Patients suffer as production of cheap medicines for mental ailments discontinued

Despite a multifold increase in the prevalence of mental health and neurological diseases, dozens of cost-effective medicines used for the treatment of psychiatric illnesses and neurological disorders have vanished from the Pakistani market after local and multinational companies discontinued their production for being non-profitable for them, causing immense hardships to patients.
These drugs include psychoactive drugs antipsychotic drugs, antidepressants, mood stabilizers, anticholinergics, antihistamine, sedative and antiemetic, stimulant for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and anticonvulsants. All these drugs used to be prescribed to people having mental health issues and neurological disorders as they were immensely cost-effective and in the reach of common people, experts said.

As Pakistan is struggling to contain the second wave of Covid-19, there is speculation if the country will procure the vaccine from its all-weather friend China, or it will turn to “more effective” Russian, American or British vaccines.
The nations around the globe are rushing to get a certified vaccine as soon as possible. Pakistan is currently conducting the phase III trials of Ad5-nCoV, developed by the Chinese vaccine developer CanSino Biologics.
The government last week said it had begun the vaccine procurement process, but there was no confirmation on which vaccine candidate the government had decided to finalize. As of Friday, Pakistan’s Covid-19 tally stands at 432,000 with 8,653 deaths reported so far.
