Oregon s prisons get first doses of COVID vaccine

ONTARIO The first doses of the a COVID-19 vaccine that will be used to treat those who are connected to Oregon’s prisons were administered to employees on Monday. Staff, contractors, Oregon Corrections Enterprises employees and inmates will all be “strongly encouraged” to get vaccinated against the virus. The pandemic has shuttered many of Oregon’s 14 prisons to visitation and volunteer-led services due to outbreaks. Among these is Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario which has been closed to visitation since July 3. Overall 11 inmates between the ages of 50 and 85 at SRCI who had tested positive with COVID-19 have died. A total of 21 deaths overall in the state’s facilities have been tied to the virus.

There are 108 active COVID-19 workplace outbreaks in Oregon as of this week, up from the 89 reported last week by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). More than 11,000 people in the state have tested positive for the coronavirus in relation to workplace outbreaks. Health officials track outbreaks of five or more employees at workplaces where there are at least 30 workers. An outbreak remains active if there has been a case within the past 28 days. The case count for each workplace includes everyone who is linked to the outbreak, whether they are workers or a close contact.

Feds say Baker man lied to get COVID-19 loan

A 31-year-old Baker City man is facing federal criminal charges for allegedly receiving a $145,200 federal COVID-19 relief loan on behalf of a fictitious company and then using the money for personal purposes, including buying a $49,000 car, federal officials said. Jeremy Michael Clawson has been charged with theft of government property. Clawson is serving a 19-month sentence at the Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario after pleading guilty Sept. 29 of this year in Baker County Circuit Court to attempting to elude a police officer and driving under the influence of intoxicants on Aug. 21. Baker City Police officer Justin Prevo arrested Clawson at 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 21 at the intersection of Second Street and Auburn Avenue, according to court records.

Updated: 7:40 AM PST December 17, 2020 PORTLAND, Ore There are 118 active COVID-19 workplace outbreaks in Oregon as of this week, down from the record-high 124 reported last week by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). There have been 68 deaths and 12,063 cases associated with workplace outbreaks in Oregon during the pandemic, according to OHA. That’s up from the 61 total deaths and 11,139 total cases OHA reported last week. Health officials track outbreaks of five or more employees at workplaces where there are at least 30 workers. An outbreak remains active if there has been a case within the past 28 days. The case count for each workplace includes everyone who is linked to the outbreak, whether they are workers or a close contact.
