Farmers agitation continues for 39th day amid biting cold, rain

New Delhi, Jan 3 (IANS): Even as farmers agitation on the Delhi borders continued for the 39th day on Sunday amid harsh cold and rain, the protesters were adamant that they would protest till the government withdrew the three new farm laws.
Harinder Singh Lakhowal, General Secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal), told IANS that despite inclement weather, farmers were not ready to leave the protest site, but rather another group of farmers from Punjab would join the protesters on Sunday.
Talking about their problems owing to rain, Harinder Singh said that water had accumulated in tents set up by farmers at protest sites, but they won t move away from roads. He said that they are arranging for more waterproof tents to tackle rain.

New Delhi: A farmer from Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh died near the Ghazipur border on Friday (January 1) while protesting against the newly enacted farm laws by the Centre. The farmer, Galtan Singh (57), was a resident of Bhagwanpur Nagal village in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh.
Galtan Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. Indirapuram DSP Anshu Jain told PTI that as per medical information, the farmer died of a heart attack. The body has been sent to his village.

New Delhi, Jan 1 : Amid freezing temperatures in Delhi and adjoining areas, a farmer from Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh died near Ghazipur border on Friday while protesting against new agricultural laws enacted by the central government.
The farmer, Galtan Singh (57) was a resident of Bhagwanpur Nagal village in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh, said Saurav, an associate of Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait, who is leading the farmers from Uttar Pradesh demonstrating at the Ghazipur Border.
