Business as usual as the Airport reopens

Social Share With operations resuming at the Grantley Adams International Airport yesterday evening, it was business as usual today. Operations at the airport were halted for a week following the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent in the Grenadines, as Barbados battled the plumes which covered all surfaces with volcanic ash. Arriving passengers went through their routine screening in the arrivals hall, before either boarding the bus to the Harrison’s Point facility in St Lucy, those bound for the Paragon Base in Christ Church or a dedicated taxi to a hotel of their choice at their expense.

Businesses given green light to reopen

Social Share Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams on Tuesday night gave the go-ahead for business to resume in Barbados provided the appropriate cleaning of volcano ash was done to safeguard the health of both staff and patrons. Abrahams provided the update via an audio message to the nation. Barbados was closed for a national cleanup on Monday and only essential services were in operation on Tuesday as citizens and residents continued to sweep, mop, shovel and blast mounds of volcano ash that was dumped on the island after La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines erupted several times since last Friday.
