New Delhi, June 13 : Next week s selection trials to select the Indian track and field team for the Tokyo Paralympics Games have been postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic, said the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) on Sunday. Since we haven t got permission from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to conduct national selection trials at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on June 15 and 16, we have shifted the dates to June 29 and 30, PCI secretary general Gursharan Singh told IANS.
Singh said the deadline to send the final entries to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is August 1.

New Delhi, May 16 : The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) will conduct national selection trials next month to select the Indian track and field team for the upcoming Tokyo Paralympic Games.
The trials will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on June 15 and 16, PCI secretary general Gursharan Singh said on Sunday. We will conduct the trials in June to select the national team. In case we aren t able to hold the trials due to pandemic, we will find an alternative to pick the athletes for the Paralympic Games, Singh told IANS.

Octogenarian shooter Chandro Tomar, who became the oldest woman sharpshooter in the world after taking up the sport in her 60s, died on Friday after battling COVID-19.
She was 89 and was being treated at a hospital in Meerut since April 26. Mera saath chhoot gaya, Chandro kaha chali gayi (She has left me, Chandro where have you gone?), her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar, who is also one of the oldest female sharp shooters, wrote on her Twitter page.
Tomar, who was nicknamed Shooter Dadi , was hospitalised after complaining of difficulty in breathing. Tests revealed she had contracted the highly contagious virus that is causing over 3,000 deaths daily in the country.
