Opener hopes Middlesex call leads to greater things
Article by April 21, 2021
Barbados opener Zachary McCaskie is excited about the opportunity granted to him to play for Middlesex County Cricket Club. The county commenced on April 12 and ends in September.
The 24-year-old right-handed batsman said his chance was made possible thanks to former legendary West Indies opening batsman Desmond Haynes and the Barbados Cricket Association vice-president Calvin Hope.
The elated former Christ Church Foundation student who has played two seasons for Barbados explained what it meant to him.
“My performances have to be up to a particular standard for the county to be fully interested in me. So, I have to ensure I help them however I can and that is the best way for me to elevate.

South Africa’s scheduled visit to the Caribbean could be in jeopardy after Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) highest authority reneged on an agreement to adopt a new constitution.
West Indies are due to host the Proteas for two Tests and five T20Is in June, but by then they may not be the country’s officially recognised team.
And tonight, Barbados Cricket Association board member and director Roland Butcher told Barbados TODAY that the current conflict in South African could mean that the tour would likely be called off which would be unfortunate for the West Indies.
Butcher explained that the Future Tours Programme allowed the home team to get their finances when playing at home but they get nothing when playing away.

Incumbents returned to helm unopposed
Article by April 13, 2021
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – As expected, Ricky Skerritt was on Sunday returned as president of Cricket West Indies unopposed along with vice-president Dr Kishore Shallow, the pair now set to serve a second successive term at the helm of the regional governing body.
The move was always on the cards once their challengers, Anand Sanasie of Guyana and Barbados Cricket Association vicepresident, Calvin Hope, dropped out of the race last week.
Both the Guyana Cricket Board and the BCA, which had snubbed the March 28 Annual General Meeting thus forcing a postponement due to the lack of a quorum, were present at Sunday’s meeting, ruling out any chance of the fireworks of two weeks ago.
