Jalese Gordon has been confirmed for an ‘invitational place’ at the Tokyo Olympics scheduled for July 23 to August 8 in Japan.
The 19-year-old Gordon, who was previously confirmed as a wild card entry for the games had it taken place in 2020, was forced to wait another year for confirmation as to whether or not she would receive the same courtesy for the event that has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“She was confirmed a universality spot in the games for last year had they come off. We had to wait to see what changes there might have been for the 2021 games and just last week we got the confirmation form the international sailing federation.
Athletics head cautions athletes against cutting corners in attempt to access NOC funding

President of the Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Association (ABAA),
Everton Cornelius, has cautioned athletes against bypassing the national association and seeking to access funding directly from the Antigua and Barbuda National Olympic Committee (NOC).
His warning comes amidst ongoing debate over funding for national athletes and who should be eligible for financial support.
Cornelius said that subverting the national course of first opening dialogue with the national association could complicate the process.
“What I found has happened over a period of time is that sometimes athletes go directly to the NOC, and the NOC, at times, deals directly with the athletes and sometimes it causes confusion. I think that is what brings us to this situation with Bakka [Daniel Bailey] and Jess St John because they are saying they spoke directly to the general secretary of the NOC [
