Despite Gov. Greg Abbott’s latest executive order lifting a monthslong statewide mask mandate and other restrictions implemented to curb the spread of COVID-19, students at Bastrop and Smithville schools will still be required to wear face coverings.
“The day is coming when we will be able to relax and/or eliminate the requirement for masks in our schools, but that day is not” now, Superintendent Barry Edwards said in a letter to parents Friday. “With that goal in mind, Bastrop ISD will continue its protocols and require students, staff and visitors to wear masks as they have done all year long.”
