Despite Gov Greg Abbott lifting mask mandate, schools will keep requirement

Despite Gov. Greg Abbott’s latest executive order lifting a monthslong statewide mask mandate and other restrictions implemented to curb the spread of COVID-19, students at Bastrop and Smithville schools will still be required to wear face coverings.  “The day is coming when we will be able to relax and/or eliminate the requirement for masks in our schools, but that day is not” now, Superintendent Barry Edwards said in a letter to parents Friday. “With that goal in mind, Bastrop ISD will continue its protocols and require students, staff and visitors to wear masks as they have done all year long.”

Many on the University of Texas at Austin s campus were stuck in a line Monday after a spokesperson told KVUE a vaccine scheduling link was inappropriately shared widely through unofficial networks with false information, leading thousands of people to sign up for appointments who did not follow the UTHA [UT Health Austin] registration process.
