Peoria fatal wreck is latest blow to family that came from Africa

Pastor gives update on survivors of the crash. PEORIA   Laetitia Bolodjwa and Jonathan Bomolo left Africa two years ago to come to Peoria, where the two were raising seven children, their pastor said.   Two months ago, a fire forced the family from their apartment, said Pastor Joe Hawkins of Oasis Church. On Sunday, a two-car accident in Peoria claimed the lives of two of the children while sending their mother and five siblings to a Peoria hospital. This family has suffered much hardship throughout this past year and are now finding themselves in the midst of the unthinkable, Hawkins said in a post for a church fundraiser to help with the family s expenses.

WCBU file photo / Two children are dead and six others were hospitalized in a two-vehicle collision just outside of Peoria on Sunday. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said the crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday on Charter Oak Road near Charter Oak Lane just west of city limits.Harwood said a westbound vehicle collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle after one of them crossed the center line. Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell said a Toyota sedan with eight people inside crossed the center line and struck a Lexus SUV. Asbell said a 14-year-old passenger in one of the vehicles was declared dead at the scene. Later, a one-year-old passenger from that same vehicle was declared dead at the hospital.
