The new fleet will include some hybrid-electric powered trains. The trains will be running throughout the Northeast region, according to CNBC. These trains will run on the Palmetto line, which runs from New York City to Miami. The new trains will also be on the Adirondack, Carolinian, Cascades, Downeaster, Empire Service, Ethan Allen Express, Keystone Service, Maple Leaf, New Haven/Springfield Service (Amtrak Hartford Line and Valley Flyer), Pennsylvanian, Vermonter, and Virginia lines.

The Wall Street Journal reports that on Friday, May 28, 2021, the federal government approved the environmental review of the $11 billion rail tunnel. This approval and review were previously stalled under the Trump administration. The Trump administration held up the project because of the complexity. On Wednesday, March 31, President Joe Biden unveiled a $2 trillion infrastructure plan for the U.S. In this plan, some funds will be allocated to improve roads and transportation. According to Business Insider, Amtrak released a statement that plans for changes and updates to their rail track. Amtrak said that they could build an expanded U.S. rail network with $80 billion of President Biden s $2 trillion dollar plan, according to Business Insider. This would create over 30 new routes and improve rail service as well. People are mainly focusing on how it would impact the west, which is lacking in train service options. However, Amtraks proposed plans could affect the Hudson Valley.
