Development of livestock for livelihoods project to ease demand for animal products

FARMKENYA INITIATIVE Africa’s demand for livestock and livestock products is currently higher than the existing supply and is poised to increase significantly in the next three decades. By the year 2050, with increased population to 2.4 billion people, food demand for livestock products will nearly double in subSaharan Africa and South Asia, to around 400 kcal per person per day. This high and growing demand meets imports estimated at 4 billion USD per year as investments remain at an all-time low and a myriad challenge continue to stifle the sector’s potential for growth. UNESCO and partners celebrate 50th anniversary of the 1970 Convention against illicit trafficking in cultural property with major event in Africa

Share On 26 and 27 April 2021, UNESCO, together with partners, is convening an African regional conference to mark the 50th anniversary of the UNESCO 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property. The two-day on-line event will focus on the tools and best practices to fight against illicit trafficking in cultural property and to support the return and restitution of cultural property, which particularly affect the Africa Region.   Challenges concerning trafficking in cultural property are numerous, including large-scale looting exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the protection of archaeological sites in conflict zones, and rising illegal online sales.

26 Apr 2021 The Better Migration Management (BMM) programme is a regional, multi-year, multi-partner programme which seeks to improve the management of safe, orderly and regular migration through providing support to national authorities to address Trafficking in Persons (TiP) and Smuggling of Migrants (SoM) within and from the EHoA region. In particular, the programme aims to strengthen national and regional migration governance in accordance with global and regional frameworks through enhancing national and cross-border operations as well as inter-agency cooperation on the management of trafficking and smuggling cases between investigations, prosecution, courts and other state and non-state actors in accordance with international standards. The BMM programme also aims to improve the prevention of TiP and SoM and protection of vulnerable migrants at a local, national and regional level, ensuring appropriate assistance and support for victims of trafficking, taking into account age
