Uber Partners Up with Three Public Transits as Company Expands Its Software as a Service Business

The popular ride-hailing company announced that it would be selling the software that powers its business to public transit agencies located in Denver, Colorado; Cecil County, Maryland; and Porterville, California. Uber partners up with public transits Denver s Regional Transportation District will begin using Uber s management software within this week to manage its fleet of wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Cecil Transit and Porterville Transit will follow in the next few weeks. For a subscription fee, these transit agencies will be able to use the matching and marketplace technology that Uber uses to facilitate on-demand community rides using their own transit fleet.

Colorado Democrats introduce bill for new Front Range rail district

Colorado Senate president Leroy Garcia, D-Pueblo, introduced legislation Friday that would be the most noteworthy step taken to establish a passenger train system along Colorado’s Front Range after years of conversation about expanded rail service in the state.   The bill would create a rail district extending from the Wyoming border to the New Mexico border along Interstate 25, including parts of Pueblo County. A board of directors would oversee that district for the purpose of “planning, designing, developing, financing, constructing, operating, and maintaining an interconnected passenger rail system along the front range,” according to the bill text.  People talk about this in a number of different districts,” Garcia said. “They want to see high-speed passenger rail become a reality.
