The feds need to be more upfront about stuff, though… Pharmacists have found a way to squeeze extra doses out of vials of Pfizer’s vaccine, potentially expanding the nation’s scarce supply by up to 40 percent. The Food and Drug Administration said late Wednesday that those extra doses could be used, clearing up confusion that had caused some pharmacists to throw away leftover vaccine for fear of violating the rules the agency set last week. And that’ll help mitigate the fact that dose shipments were cut in half this week. UPDATE 1 Like I said, patience will be a virtue. Vaccine Doses Sent to 77 Hospitals Statewide

Credit Blueroomstream.com Coronavirus vaccinations from the state’s National Strategic Stockpile were delivered Thursday to 77 hospitals in 45 counties throughout the state, Gov. JB Pritzker announced at his daily briefing. Pritzker said the state first’s vaccine shipment totaled 109,000 doses which includes 23,000 to the city of Chicago and 86,000 for the rest of Illinois. The state received the first 43,000 doses on Monday, which is separate from the federal shipment to Chicago, he said.

HSHS St John s Hospital receives and administers first COVID-19 vaccines

4 months ago in Local Photo: Saga Communications SPRINGFIELD As one of the state’s Regional Hospital Coordinating Centers (RHCC), HSHS St. John’s Hospital received Region 3’s vaccine allocation and administered the first COVID-19 vaccine doses to hospital colleagues today. Representatives from four of the region’s 18 counties picked up their allocations as well as Memorial Health System. The doses were administered to clinical colleagues providing direct patient care, all of who voluntarily consented to receive the vaccine. At this time, Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) is not requiring its colleagues to receive the vaccination, although they are recommending colleagues receive the vaccine when it is available to them.
