The resulting information vacuum on this “30x30” proposal has enabled critics to claim that a supposed federal land grab lies ahead. The administration’s silence on the issue has placed Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack in a difficult position as he tries to explain a policy that at this point is little more than an abstraction.
Vilsack, a former Iowa governor who also served as agriculture secretary in the Obama administration, did provide needed reassurance when he publicly stated that the federal government will not seize private land. He also noted that U.S. ag producers are already using conservation measures in many cases.
Keith County store fails alcohol inspection

On Wednesday evening, May 5, investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol conducted alcohol inspections in Keith County.
In total, 15 businesses were inspected.
One business, Cenex Zip Trip 80, sold alcohol to a minor. All businesses checked the minor’s ID, NSP spokesman Cody Thomas said.
The businesses included liquor stores, convenience stores, restaurants, and bars. Businesses that fail the inspections are referred the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission. Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor are cited for procuring alcohol for a minor.

The Indian Health Service awarded $16 million to tribes, tribal organizations, and urban Indian organizations to combat the opioid epidemic in Indian Country through the 2021 Community Opioid Intervention Pilot Project.
“These funds will reinforce tribal and urban Indian communities in their effort to provide prevention, treatment, and recovery services to address the impact of the opioid crisis within their communities.” said Indian Health Service Acting Director Elizabeth Fowler. “The Indian Health Service continues to support safe and effective therapies to best manage pain and opioid use disorder.”
