A 29-year-old man is facing federal charges after prosecutors say he fired a gun several times in downtown Indianapolis last summer during protests in the wake of the murder of George Floyd.
The United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Indiana on Friday said a federal grand jury indicted Tyrone Ross on charges of felon in possession of a firearm stemming from his actions May 30 while protesting Floyd s murder at the hands of Minneapolis police.
According to the Department of Justice, security cameras at the Birch Bayh Federal Building on Ohio Street about 11:15 p.m. captured a group of approximately seven individuals who began assembling on federal property at the southeast corner of the federal building.

INDIANAPOLIS–A man who had a gun and fired it during the riots in downtown Indianapolis in May 2020, has been indicted on federal charges. Court documents say Tyrone Ross, 29, of Indianapolis, was caught on camera shooting a gun in the direction of other people who were on the street.
Acting U.S. Atty. John Childress, said Friday that Ross is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, which could land him in federal prison for ten years.
The indictment said that Ross was caught on camera on Ohio St., near the Birch Bayh Federal Building, with six other people. At about 11:15 p.m., Ross pulled a gun out from under his clothing and fired at least four shots in the direction of Yolk Restaurant. The video shows the street was crowded with people and cars.
