(CNSNews, com) - Sen. James Lankford (R.-Okla.) stood on the Senate floor on Jan. 27 in front of an illustration that included ultrasound photos of unborn babies.
Then he asked his colleagues a simple question: “Is that a child or not?”
“Among our most basic rights in America, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, one of the most basic things that come out of our founding documents is these things are referred to as self-evident,” said Lankford. “Facts are facts, especially when those facts have a face. How can you look at that picture and say, ‘That s not a human child?’
Energized by the U.S. Supreme Court s newly cemented conservative majority, Republican lawmakers throughout the country have put forward a host of aggressive bills that would limit access to and, in many cases, criminalize abortion.
In Arizona alone, GOP legislators have introduced more than 10 pieces of legislation that propose an array of changes, from restrictions on abortion medications and online reproductive health referrals to murder charges for those who terminate pregnancies. The Arizona voters spoke in November, and they elected majorities that have professed to be pro-life in the House and Senate, said Center for Arizona Policy Director Cathi Herrod, the state s leading anti-abortion lobbyist. We’re very hopeful about this session.
Standing Up for Life By Sen. John Thune On January 22, we observed the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade – the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. It’s a somber day every year, as we contemplate the millions of lives lost to abortion since the Roe v. Wade…
U.S. Sen.
Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), member of the
Congressional Coalition on Adoption, co-sponsored sixteen pro-life bills and introduced his own bill in advance of the annual March for Life this week. He also co-sponsored a resolution recognizing
January 22, 2021 as a Day of Tears for the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision. We have made so much progress over the last four years in our fight for life, Inhofe said. As we begin this new chapter with an extremely anti-life administration, it is more important than ever to bring a voice to the unborn. Since Roe v. Wade, over 60 million babies have been deprived of the ability to experience the miracle of life. These bills are an important first step in protecting the basic right to life and ending on-demand abortion.
In remarks on the Senate floor on Thursday, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said that “being pro-life isn’t just the right to be born; it also means the right to live and to thrive,” arguing that policies like an expanded Child Tax Credit would help build a culture of life.
Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), the founder and chairman of the Senate Pro-life Caucus, spoke in support of the 48th annual March for Life on Friday.
“I believe every human being is created with God-given dignity and potential,” Daines said. “No court, no legislature, no law, can take that away.”
Senators also spoke out against President Joe Biden’s order allowing for funding of pro-abortion groups overseas. Biden repealed the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits taxpayer funding of foreign NGOs that perform or promote abortion.
