U.S. Representative August Pfluger signed a discharge petition on April 14 to bring H.R. 629, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, to the House floor for a vote.
The bill would require doctors to give the same level of care to a baby that survived abortion as they would any other newborn. It would also enforce penalties for health care providers who intentionally allow the death of a newborn.
Picture two babies born in the same hospital. In the NICU, doctors and nurses spare no effort to save the lives of very sick and premature babies.

Down the hall, a very different scene unfolds. The reason? This child was scheduled for abortion. But the tools and techniques meant to kill the baby don’t work, and he or she is born alive breathing, moving, crying.
Instead of being immediately transported and treated with the same compassionate care, the baby is taken to a soiled utility room and left there to die alone.
It sounds surreal but this is exactly the experience of Jill Stanek, a former nurse and whistleblower who witnessed aborted babies being born alive and abandoned, including a little boy with Down syndrome who she comforted for 45 minutes of his brief life.

Somerset s Congressman Hal Rogers has added his name to a discharge petition that would force House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to call a vote on the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
The legislation mandates that any infant born alive after an abortion receives the same standard of care as any newborn baby. It also requires practitioners and hospital employees to report violations to law enforcement, and institutes penalties for abortionists who allow infants to die or who intentionally kill a newborn abortion survivor. The conservative-led bill, which has been blocked from the House Floor, also protects the mother from prosecution.

House Republicans are trying to force a vote on legislation that would put in place requirements for the care of infants born after failed abortions, the companion to a Senate bill that failed to pass in 2019.
“I urge my colleagues to stand up for what is right in putting an end to the dangerous, immoral abortion practices that take place daily in our country,”
said Florida Republican Rep. Kat Cammack, who filed a petition Wednesday to force a House vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
If a majority of the House signs the document, known as a discharge petition, it will force the House to consider the measure. However, with the House under Democratic control, even by a slim margin, the discharge petition faces long odds of success.
