April 20 (UPI) A three-alarm fire broke out at Domino Sugar s raw sugar storage shed in Baltimore on Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.
Fire crews responded to reports of heavy smoke in the area at about 3 p.m. as the blaze caused the building to collapse.
Advertisement The fire that was started or originated in and around the silo managed to make its way to the conveyer belt and traveled just a short distance up the conveyor belt, Blair Adams of the Baltimore City Fire Department told local station WJZ.

BALTIMORE A fire at the Domino Sugar plant sent white smoke billowing over the Inner Harbor in Baltimore on Tuesday, but no injuries were immediately reported, a fire department spokeswoman said.
A conveyer belt apparently carried a burning substance from a silo to other parts of the facility, said Baltimore City Fire Department spokeswoman Blair Adams. Fire and smoke could be seen coming through the roof when firefighters arrived, and the silo collapsed after they entered the building, according to the department.

A three-alarm fire ripped through the Domino Sugar facility in Baltimore Tuesday afternoon, destroying a storage silo.
No injuries were reported as firefighters battled the blaze for hours. Several employees had to be rescued by fire boat.
Firefighters reported heavy fire and smoke pushing through the roof when they arrived.
According to Blair Adams of the Baltimore City Fire Department, the fire originated in a storage shed that contains raw sugar, made its way to a conveyer belt, and traveled up the conveyor belt.”
The American Sugar Refining Group, which owns the Domino released a statement saying the factory had halted operations and an investigation into the fire was underway.
