A sense of hopefulness filled the atmosphere at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center as audience members played music while six staff members got vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine. âEye of the Tigerâ by Survivor and âHere Comes the Sunâ by The Beatles were heard through the claps of the audience as each vaccination was given.Â
These employees were among the first people in Athens-Clarke County to receive the COVID-19 vaccine created by Pfizer and authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for emergency use. Piedmont administered the vaccinations to front-line employees who work on the COVID-19 patient floor.

Members of the COVID-19 staff at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center were treated to a surprise lunch courtesy of Pulaski Heights BBQ on Sunday, following the postponement of the Georgia Bulldogs game at Sanford Stadium.
Though tailgating has been scaled down this season compared to previous years, the restaurant still stocks up on food for home games.
“One minute after I made an Instagram post encouraging people to put their orders in early, I received a call from a customer who had a family member on the Vanderbilt team,” said Pulaski Heights owner Chuck Ramsey. “They were canceling an order they’d just placed because the game had been postponed.”
