WILLIAMSPORT – Did pilot inexperience, bad instructions by an air traffic controller or both cause a 2015 small plane crash in North Carolina that killed three including a Sunbury attorney?
That is the question U.S. Middle District Judge Matthew W. Brann ultimately will have to decide in a non-jury trial that began Monday and is scheduled to last more than a week. Many of the witnesses will be aviation experts.
The National Transportation Safety Board found the cause of the crash was deficient Federal Aviation Administration air traffic control training in recognizing and and handling emergencies and pilot spatial disorientation.
