(Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra) ANN ARBOR – The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra will be releasing performances recorded live this season at the Michigan Theater. Starting this week, A2SO’s full string orchestra will perform three concerts at the iconic theater, which will be available for on-demand streaming through June 30. The performances will feature additional virtual chamber concerts and will be paired with takeout meals from local restaurants. “This is a moment for celebration,” A2SO Executive Director Tyler Rand said in a statement. “The symphony has been unable to gather a group of this size for almost a year now, and we’ve all been missing making live symphonic music in our venues.”

by Bill Batson Unending battles over Confederate flags, monuments, and the National Anthem suggest that the issues contested in the Civil War and Civil Rights Movement remain unresolved. A polarized nation expressed its allegiance to different historic narratives, and even different flags, during this last year. Last summer, demonstrations organized to protest the killing of George Floyd by police in Minnesota, demanded, and, on occasion, facilitated the dismantling of monuments to the Confederacy. By winter, a more furious season of discontent over symbols from our history descended on Washington, DC, when insurrectionists invaded the Capitol, flying the Confederate flag.
