New Mexico Higher Education, Public Education Departments And CCNM Celebrate College-Bound Students NMHED News: SANTA FE The New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED), Public Education Department (PED) and College Connect New Mexico (CCNM) will celebrate students who have decided to continue their education beyond high school during New Mexico College and Career Signing Day May 4. High school seniors and other college-bound New Mexicans will be recognized in a video celebration that will stream on the New Mexico Public Education Department’s Facebook page at 3 p.m. May 4. Students and community leaders from across New Mexico submitted photos and videos announcing their college, trade school or training program of choice.   

WNMU Announces Hybrid Graduation May 7th

The school says that the event will be held outdoors with limited capacity at Ben Altamirano Stadium. The university says the in-person ceremony will use an e-ticket system. During the event, the college will require masks for everyone and enforce the state’s public health orders with social distancing. WNMU says the event will also follow New Mexico Higher Education Department guidelines for commencement ceremonies.  Graduates participating virtually will be represented on a large screen in Ben Altamirano Stadium during the event as was seen during virtual ceremonies of the past year. WNMU says the event will be live on Facebook and wnmu.edu.

Governor Signs Bills Benefiting Students, Higher Education STATE News: SANTA FE Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has signed several budget and policy measures that will benefit higher education students, support workforce development, and fund key initiatives at public and Tribal colleges and universities across New Mexico.   A top administrative priority, the New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship will receive $18 million to support part-time and non-traditional students as well as recent high school graduates in pursuing certificate, associate, and bachelor’s degrees at public and Tribal colleges and universities in New Mexico. The scholarship was originally established in 2020, but was limited to students attending full-time and pursuing two-year degrees.
