Sun-News talked with the two Daniels Fund Scholarship recipients from the Gadsden district. Here are their stories.
Youngest of 12
Juan Diaz said he was thankful to his parents, who helped support him through school Now that I see that I can really win this scholarship, I guess there s really no obstacles that can stop me in my future, Juan said. To say that I m a Daniels Scholar, it really means a lot. I just feel like that puts you at an advantage, and I ll be able to do a lot of things.
Juan is the youngest of 12 siblings who range in age from 37 to 17 – Juan s age.
On March 22, 2021, I lost a friend and colleague.
After a long illness, Kevin Boberg passed away on that day. When I met him, he was working as a professor at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. He was the first international logistics experts I met when I become a trade specialist 30 years ago. I remember being introduced to him and the talk turned to the soon-to-be-established Santa Teresa Port of Entry in southern New Mexico. He strongly argued that an intermodal yard incorporating rail and truck modes needed to be established there.
When I started asking questions about this concept, he ushered me to a boardroom at the back of the business school.
