NMSU to celebrate fall, summer graduates at virtual commencement Saturday

By News Editor And Partners • Dec 9, 2020 New Mexico State University will recognize the achievements of more than 1,500 students who completed degree requirements over the summer and fall semesters in a virtual commencement ceremony set for Saturday, Dec. 12. KRWG Public Media also will broadcast the ceremony on TV and online at https://video.krwg.org/livestream/ A total of 1,325 students are expected to earn bachelor’s or advanced degrees this week as part of the fall 2020 class. A group of 379 students also earned degrees over the summer. Fall commencement will mark the end of a year unlike any other in NMSU history, one in which students and faculty faced unprecedented challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic and adapted to a new educational environment.

NMSU receives $450,000 grant for pepper production research

A research team from the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at New Mexico State University is working in partnership with colleagues from Texas A&M AgriLife Research to study issues affecting pepper production in the Southwest. (Courtesy photo) The collaboration between the College of ACES and Texas A&M AgriLife Research recently received a $914,000 grant from the USDA-Specialty Crop Multi-State Program through the Texas Department of Agriculture. Soum Sanogo, professor of fungal plant pathology in the Department of Entomology, Plant Pathology and Weed Science, is leading the NMSU team, which received a $450,000 grant.

Los Lunas Board of Educations selects three finalists for superintendent position

LOS LUNAS — From 12 to three. The Los Lunas Schools Board of Education finalized its shortlist of candidates for the superintendent position on Tuesday, Dec. 8. The three remaining candidates — Ron Hendrix, Dr. Arsenio Romero and Katarina Sandoval — will come before the board on Monday, Dec. 14, in an executive session for a second interview before a new superintendent is chosen. There will be two special meetings on Monday, however. At 9 a.m., the board will meet to approve questions for the candidates for superintendent before interviewing them in a closed session. Later that day, at 5:30 p.m., the board will vote to appoint a new superintendent.
