Could it become mandatory for teachers and other school personnel once the vaccine supply becomes more available?
While possible the state could order school employees to get shots, it’s not likely - at least not yet.
Jay Worona, deputy executive director and general counsel for the New York State School Board, said under New York state law, the governor could mandate the Covid vaccines for school district employees through an executive order.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â Governor Andrew Cuomo is asking large essential workforces and their unions to set up their own vaccination programs.
The initial announcement came three weeks ago, and has been discussed by the governor at several briefings since then.
Cuomo wants them to administer the vaccines themselves, or use their own health system provider where possible. This includes fire, police, transit, and teacher essential workforces.
