Massena Central community schools director briefs state officials on Community Schools initiative

MASSENA — The Massena Central School District’s community schools director had the opportunity recently to talk with state officials about the positive impact the Community Schools initiative has had in the district. Kristin Colarusso-Martin had been invited to meet with members of the state Assembly and Senate Education Committee, New York City Education Committee, and state Assembly and Senate staff. The invitation came in collaboration with New York State United Teachers so the legislative leaders could learn more about the critical role community schools played, the services provided by the initiative, and the work that had been done before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ulster names 11 members of coronavirus vaccine group

KINGSTON, N.Y. — The first 11 members of the Ulster County Vaccine Distribution Coalition, a group of community leaders which work to educate the public and build trust and confidence in the COVID-19 vaccine, were announced Tuesday. Dr. Marc Tack, an infectious disease specialist with more than 20 years of experience, will lead the coalition. “Ensuring we distribute the vaccine safely, quickly, and equitably is the most complex and critical phase of our entire pandemic response, Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan said Tuesday during his livestream briefing. That’s why we are planning extensively now and building a true whole-of-community approach. While we are still months away from the vaccine being widely available to the public at-large, we are starting the work now to build trust and confidence, ensuring that the public has the information that they need to understand the process and feel safe taking the vaccine.”

There is also increasing concern that the next round of stimulus legislation to emerge from Congress will not include aid for state and local governments.
