New York has some of the most aggressive clean energy policy goals in the world via its Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, targeting decarbonisation of its electricity sector by 2040. Energy storage is expected to play a vital role, with the Act introduced by Governor Andrew Cuomo including a target of 3GW of storage deployment by 2030 to support the transition away from reliance on fossil fuels.
New York Power Authority (NYPA), a public power organisation which serves around a quarter of the US state’s electric load, said on the release of its strategic plan VISION2030 in December that it wants to lead by example with a commitment to cost-effective clean energy that could see NYPA reach emissions-free electricity by 2035.
Allegiant Air is expanding to three new cities as part of a 21-route expansion aimed at pandemic vacationers.
The Las Vegas-based budget airline plans to start nonstop service from Portland, Oregon, in April and Key West, Florida, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in June.
The cities were selected because they are gateways to outdoor recreation, which travelers have flocked to during the COVID-19 pandemic, Allegiant spokeswoman Hilarie Grey said.
Allegiant, which typically caters to passengers headed from smaller cities and towns to major vacation destinations like Las Vegas; Phoenix; Florida; and Nashville, Tennessee, has seen a spike in interest from travelers in those major destinations seeking outdoor vacations, she said. Bookings from Las Vegas to Montana are up significantly, she said. The airline expects similar demand for flights between Las Vegas and Phoenix and Jackson Hole, she said.

STEWART AIRPORT – American Airlines, which withdrew its service from New York Stewart International Airport at Newburgh some months ago when federal COVID-19 aid expired, is back flying its Newburgh to Philadelphia route.
The service resumed on Tuesday, January 5 with one daily flight.
“We ‘re always evaluating our network based on supply and demand,” said American Airlines spokeswoman Nichelle Tait. “In light of the extension of the Payroll Support Program, we plan to reinstate service to Stewart International airport in Newburgh, NY and will continue to operate to Philadelphia International Airport on an Embraer ERJ-45.”
