NEW HANOVER COUNTY â Since the Covid-19 vaccine rollout began in New Hanover County, questions keep rising from the public on where to go to get the vaccine and when â not to mention what to bring, how to get an appointment, who will administer it, and what to expect overall.
What we know so far is that New Hanover County’s vaccination program could take up to nine months to complete. Multiple variables play into the mass distribution of the vaccines â from the supply rolling into the states from the federal government to how many vaccinators need to be in place as phases progress across each county in North Carolina.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - New Hanover County Public Health officials say they are seeing a surge of daily COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.
According to the county, 1,158 new cases have been reported over the last two weeks while the health department has been informed of 14 deaths of county residents connected to COVID-19 since Dec. 23.
“The 14 individuals who died were all at risk of severe illness because of age (ranging in age from 60 to 90 years old), underlying health conditions or both. This brings the total number of New Hanover County residents who have died from COVID-19 to 91,” the county stated in a news release.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY The entire 11-member board of the newfound New Hanover Community Endowment, Inc. nonprofit has been named, with board members recently conducting their first meeting.
The endowment is tasked with managing $1.25 billion the lion’s share of sale proceeds generated by the sale of New Hanover Regional Medical Center to Novant Health.
Regulators are currently reviewing the sale in advance of its anticipated closing date, which is expected sometime in the first quarter of 2021.
