OTTAWA, May 14, 2021 /CNW/ - Canadian biogas experienced a decade of rapid growth from 2011 to 2020, with an almost 50% jump in operating biogas projects across the country. That s the key takeaway from the Canadian 2020 Biogas Market Report just released by the Canadian Biogas Association that provides a comprehensive analysis of trends in the production and use of biogas energy in Canada.
Canada now has 279 biogas projects from coast to coast. These projects are capturing waste methane from agricultural waste, landfills, green bin programs and municipal wastewater treatment facilities and turning it into a total of 196 Megawatts of clean electricity and 6 million Gigajoules of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). That s the equivalent of roughly 300,000,000 m

Canada just scratching RNG surface: report
Despite rapid growth over the last decade, Canada is just scratching the surface of its biogas potential, the Canadian Biogas Association (CBA) says in a new report released May 14.
Between 2011 and 2020, the number of operating biogas facilities across the country jumped by nearly 50%, and there are now 279 operating from coast to coast. Collectively, they are capturing methane from agricultural waste, from landfills and green bin recycling programs and from municipal wastewater treatment facilities, and turning it into 196 MW of clean electricity and 6mn GJ of renewable natural gas (RNG) every year.
Harnessing the Worth of Water

A new Portland company sees opportunity in recycling wastewater, as drought and water scarcity present looming social and economic challenges.
For several years, Ben Vitale helped companies monetize their reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions when he worked at the Climate Trust. As president of the Portland carbon asset manager between 2009 and 2013, he managed a $20 million portfolio of carbon-emission reduction projects.
He has now turned his hand to helping companies reduce consumption of a natural resource that is becoming scarcer as the climate changes: water. His new company, Resilient Infrastructure Group, founded in 2019, provides private and public organizations with on-site treatment solutions
