ECSA welcomes European Commission’s new Mobility Strategy and underlines competitiveness of the industry as prerequisite to achieving the goals
Welcoming the new Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy published today by the European Commission, ECSA, underlines the importance of maintaining and improving the competitiveness of the sector as the prerequisite to attaining the ambitions set in the document.
“Sustainable, connected and resilient European transport sectors are key to maintaining the global position of the European economy,” says Martin Dorsman, ECSA Secretary-General. “This strategy comes at the right time, as the transport and mobility sectors seek to come back stronger from the COVID-19 crisis, while delivering on the objectives of the Green Deal.”

BRUSSELS The European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETMRA) is embracing a recently unveiled European Union Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, stating that tires will play an important role in the decarbonization and digital transformation of the European transport system.

the strategy is structured around three key objectives: making the European transport system sustainable, smart and resilient.
The roadmap has been developed in the context of the European Green Deal, which aims to reduce transport-related greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2050 in the region. The tire Industry is committed to reducing its CO2 footprint throughout the entire tire life cycle and is investing in innovative and sustainable mobility technologies, ETRMA Secretary general Fazilet Cinaralp said.
The European Commission has identified hyperloop as a “game-changing mobility technology” in its sustainability strategy.
The Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy – released this week – says that developing new technologies is “key to staying ahead of the curve”.
The strategy outlines how the EU will reduce transit-related greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2050 as part of the European Green Deal. It backs the wider use of hyperloop going forward, along with drones, autonomous vehicles, hydrogen aircraft, electric personal air vehicles, electric waterborne transport and clean urban logistics.
“An enabling environment for such game-changing mobility technologies is key, so that the EU can become a prime deployment destination for innovators,” the strategy says.
