Boston, MA – Recognizing the urgent need to elevate nursing and midwifery leadership around the world, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Harvard Kennedy School, and Harvard Graduate School of Education, together with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), have launched the Harvard Global Nursing Leadership Program to give ministry-level nurses and midwives a foundational understanding and field experience in global public health and population health management.
The program formally kicked off on April 29, 2021, during World Immunization Week, with a two-hour virtual workshop featuring a keynote address from Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Chelsea Flower Show is such a fabulous institution. With the exception of periods during the two World Wars and in 2020 when it had to be cancelled altogether, it has been the highlight of the horticultural year since its inception in 1913, taking place as reliably as clockwork in the last week of May. The pandemic has turned so many events upside down, throwing out huge challenges and leaving so much disappointment in its wake. But gardeners are a resilient bunch and the resounding reaction to the news that Chelsea will take place in September this year has been positive.
Chief executive Shirley Baines said: “During the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic we saw nurses innovate at scale and use digital health to deliver continuous care for new and existing patients.”
She added that the trust wanted to “support nurses to use data and technology to make real and lasting improvements to patient care, their organisations and to the nursing profession”.
The grants will cover three areas of digital health innovation including the use of data and analytics to measure and improve nursing practice and nurse-led interventions.
