Captain without a conscience?

Captain without a conscience? K K Rema on fighting for her martyred husband’s political convictions and why Pinarayi’s new-found popularity is just a PR exercise KK Rema lost her husband, comrade TP, nine years ago, on the night of May 4, 2012 after he was hacked to death at Vallikaadu Junction in Kozhikode by a group of assailants. Several CPM activists were later convicted for T P Chandrasekharan’s murder but in her own way, Rema exacted her revenge after nine years through ballot, crushing LDF in its stronghold, Vadakara. “Why did they do it? What was the need for it? I believe we are in desperate need of administrators with a heart and captains with a conscience,” says Rema.

Poll analysis: Comprehensive victory of the Left in Kerala

Poll analysis: Comprehensive victory of the Left in Kerala ‘Metroman’ humbled by Youth Congress leader in Palakkad; For the first time a CM has also his son-in law in the house; Health Minister Shailaja wins with the largest margin of votes; Mrs. K. K. Rema’s victory adds a sour note to the LDF victory. By M A Siraj|   Published: 6th May 2021 6:19 pm IST The return of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) to the seat of power in Kerala was a foregone conclusion. Its resounding victory for the second consecutive term is an affirmation that people are not averse to choosing the incumbents if they find their leadership responsive, responsible, efficient and effective. Much of the credit for winning a second term for the LDF goes to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the soft-spoken and dynamic leader who galvanized the State Administration ably by handling the crises ranging from Covid pandemic to Nipah or rain-induced deluge and landslide.

In historic Kerala poll result, women are sidelined

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala stands out among India’s major states for the fact that it has more women in the population than men. Add to that the fact that it is India’s most literate state, the logical assumption would be that women will have their place in the sun. When it comes to electoral representation, however, women in Kerala have been sidelined, a fact that has once more been underlined though the outcome of the latest assembly election which was historic for the fact that it gave a repeat term for the Left Democratic Front. Unfair to women India has been discussing a 33 per cent share for women in Parliament for over two decades with that ambition far from being fulfilled. It did not materialise even when the United Progressive Alliance was in power for a decade and a woman – Sonia Gandhi – was the UPA chairperson.

LDF may have lost its traditional votes in Vadakara

LDF may have lost its traditional votes in Vadakara Updated: Updated: Alleged trade-off of votes between BJP and UDF Share Article Alleged trade-off of votes between BJP and UDF The CPI(M) has blamed trade-off of votes between the BJP and the UDF for the defeat of the LDF candidate in the Vadakara Assembly constituency. From the voting pattern, it goes without saying that the LDF may also have lost some of its traditional votes here. Vadakara was among the only two seats that the front lost in the district when a Left wave swept across the State, ensuring a second term for the Pinarayi Vijayan government. The loss was even more troublesome for the CPI(M), as the winner was the wife of a dissident party leader, who was allegedly murdered on a May 4 nine years ago after he broke away to form a new party.

CPI(M) accuses BJP, JIH of helping UDF in Kozhikode

CPI(M) accuses BJP, JIH of helping UDF in Kozhikode Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) overtly and covertly helped the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) candidates in Kozhikode district. A statement said here on Monday that the vote share of the BJP came down in two Assembly constituencies, Vadakara and Koduvally, which were won by the UDF-backed Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) respectively. In the 2020 local body polls, the BJP secured 18,555 votes in the district panchayat division of Vadakara. But now the party candidate got only 10,225 votes. Likewise, in the 2016 Assembly polls, the BJP received 13,410 votes in Vadakara segment.
