Tens of thousands of Americans have volunteered to test COVID-19 vaccines, but only about half of them got the real thing during trials.
Now, with the first vaccine rollouts and a surge in coronavirus infections, experts are debating what to do about the half that got a dummy shot.
Should everyone now be offered a vaccine? Or should the two groups in the Pfizer and Moderna studies remain intact in order to collect long-term data on how well the vaccines work?

HOUSTON - Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has authorized the Houston Health Department to open the city’s first free COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Saturday
According to a release, the clinic will expand vaccine access to the general public at high risk of severe illness and death from coronavirus disease.

During the first round of inoculations, more than 32,000 Floridians have already been vaccinated.
“We’re hoping now with Moderna coming sometime next week that it will help supplement the Pfizer vaccine and we can make sure that all healthcare workers throughout the entire state, including the rural areas, will get it,” Carlos A. Migoya, president and CEO of Jackson Health System said.
Dr. Sunil Kumar was the first healthcare worker to be vaccinated last week at Broward Health Medical Center. He literally jumped for joy after he received the shot. “Well, obviously I was very excited. Me along with a lot of our healthcare workers, we have been waiting for this moment for a long time,” he said.
