Jimmy s in Wrightsville Beach lands on bracket for best college bar

The competition is part of an effort from Barstool Sports to find the best college bar in America. The springtime event coincides with the NCAA basketball tournament. Different Barstool university accounts help spur the action. Breyden Sweeney, for example, helped poll people on the barstool uncw Instagram page to come up with the initial local round. The eight bars included Pantana Bob’s, Husk, Goodfellas, Reel Café, 22 North and Blue Post. It came down to Jimmy’s against Might As Well Bar & Grill, which Jimmy’s won by about 1,500 votes, Sweeney said.  Then, in a new regional bracket of four, Jimmy’s competed against He’s Not Here (UNC-Chapel Hill’s representative), Player’s Retreat (North Carolina State University) and Coyote Joe’s (UNC Charlotte).

Clemson city council may relax mask rules to help bars, restaurants

I m just asking, please help us out, Clemson senior and downtown bartender Hannah Rogerson asked of Clemson City Council Monday night. After several pleas from business owners, hospitality workers, and Clemson students, council agreed to meet at noon Friday, March 5 to discuss relaxing certain rules around masks in bars and restaurants. The meeting comes following a public outcry that the rules were hurting local businesses.  It s not fair to wait two weeks, Mayor Robert Halfacre said after over an hour of debate and public input about the issue Monday night.  Council will look at whether or not to allow bar and restaurant patrons to be unmasked when actively eating or drinking, a major sticking point for hospitality workers, who said the rule killed business in the downtown entertainment district.

Fewer fans go to downtown Clemson but passions still run high

Clemson fans braved the rain and peaking pandemic to watch the Tigers face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Sugar Bowl. As he rushed to get a spot in front of a television just after kick-off, Clemson alum Ryan Kimbrell said downtown s emptiness surprised him. It was a little bit unexpected that it s this dead. But I mean, with everything going on. I ve been here other game weekends this season, and it s still pretty packed. But, I guess it s just the holidays, Kimbrell said.  With most fans barred from the New Orleans, LA venue, a small crowd of students and fans came to College Avenue to watch the game on New Year s Day. Crowds were smaller than normal College Avenue s wide sidewalks were largely empty in the hours leading up to kick-off but their excitement was just as palpable.
