Vestal Firefighters Extinguish Trash Blaze at University Plaza
Firefighters were sent to 4700 Vestal Parkway East around 6 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the fire department, a chief who arrived at the scene discovered the blaze involved a large pile of trash from a garbage truck.

Authorities said a quick thinking garbage truck driver found an open, safe spot to dump the load he was carrying that was on fire, saving his equipment.
The fire was under control within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The city could soon have an area where dogs can run freely.
A three-acre dog park is being constructed this year behind the A&W Ball Diamonds.
Community Services and Facilities Manager Stace Gander says they plan to do all the work internally.
“It’s going to depend on workload because we’re using internal resources for some of that work,” says Gander.
“I would like to say that by the end of August we should be in a position where that’s going to be functional. The first thing is just to get in there to kind of level it and then we’ll get the fencing contract.”
