View Comments After much debate, the Montana Districting and Apportionment Commission decided on criteria it will use to draw the congressional map during their work session Friday.  The commission, tasked with drawing the congressional and legislative maps with the 2020 Census data, reconvened Friday morning for a work session to discuss criteria for drawing maps in the wake of receiving public comment on Thursday. The commission was scheduled to determine the legislative criteria in this meeting but decided to gather more information on the impact of possible statistical deviations and reconvene on July 20.  The criteria for both the legislative and congressional maps is divided into mandatory and discretionary districting criteria. This is consistent across states and has been done historically in Montana. However, to reach more consensus and help protect against potential litigation, they changed the congressional discretionary criteria to commission goals.
