Researchers reveal a promising target for designing anti-cancer therapies

Researchers reveal a promising target for designing anti-cancer therapies Chances are, every one of us has been affected by cancer in one way or another. Unlike some other deadly diseases, cancer can take many forms inside the human body, so learning more about a single enzyme linked to many types of this disease could lead to more effective treatments. Researchers using the powerful X-ray beams generated at the Advanced Photon Source (APS), a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science User Facility at DOE s Argonne National Laboratory, have determined the structure of just such an enzyme: Taspase1, which plays an integral role in the production of cancer cells in humans.

Advancing Protein Research with Ultra-High-Speed X-Ray Crystallography

Arizona State University researcher Petra Fromme has been awarded the 2021 Christian B. Anfinsen Award in honor of her contribution to the field of protein research. She has developed the use of ultra-high-speed x-ray crystallography to investigate protein structures in fine-grain detail and the sho

Fromme s pioneering efforts in X-ray crystallography honored with prestigious Anfinsen Award

April 12, 2021 Arizona State University researcher Petra Fromme has received the 2021 Christian B. Anfinsen Award. The honor is bestowed by the Protein Society, the premier international association dedicated to supporting protein research. In presenting Fromme with this prestigious prize, the Protein Society recognizes her groundbreaking efforts to advance the field of protein research, using ultra-high-speed X-ray crystallography to probe matter at the tiniest scales and shortest time durations. Petra Fromme is the director of the Biodesign Center for Applied Structural Discovery at ASU as well as a Regents Professor of biochemistry with the School of Molecular Sciences in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at ASU.
