Charity s bid to blow up former Trump casino ended by billionaire owner

An auction house trying to raise money for a youth charity by soliciting bids to blow up a former casino once owned by Donald Trump has called off the effort after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from conservative billionaire Carl Icahn. Mr Icahn told the Associated Press his philanthropic arm will donate 175,000 dollars (£128,000) to the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City to replace money that would have been raised by a charity auction of the right to press the button to demolish the former Trump Plaza casino. He owns the former casino in New Jersey, which has been in the process of demolition for months.

Amusing Musings: What a difference a year makes: Goodbye, 2020!

Julie Weil What a difference a year makes! 2020 started off with such promise but soon turned into a dumpster fire. Speaking of fires, wildfires have raged in Australia, California, Oregon and the Amazon rainforest. And, the man who loves to say, “You’re fired!” has had 91% turnover of senior White House officials. Speaking of widespread disaster, COVID-19 has pervaded our world. There are almost 80 million coronavirus cases worldwide and nearly 20 million in the U.S.; we’re approaching two million deaths globally and about 330,000 domestically. Yet, we are closing out the year by finally starting to vaccinate brave healthcare workers, first responders, and the most vulnerable. January was aptly named for Janus, the Roman god of beginnings and endings.
