Gov Wolf Proposes Tax Hike, Major Changes To Tax System

UpdatedWed, Feb 3, 2021 at 3:55 pm ET Replies(294) Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (PACast) HARRISBURG, PA Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf on Wednesday proposed a significant hike in the state income tax but asserted that lower-wage earners would be exempt from paying it. In unveiling his proposed 2021-22 state budget, Wolf recommended raising the state s personal income tax from 3.07 percent to 4.49 percent. But he contended that taxes actually would decrease or stay the same for about two-thirds of state residents and the increase would impact only the highest wage earners. This budget makes major changes to our tax system, Wolf said in an address delivered by video to the state Legislature because of the coronavirus outbreak. It actually reduces the tax burden on Pennsylvania families earning $84,000 or less. It also proposes a major tax reduction for Pennsylvania businesses.

It didn’t seem that strange, for the most part, she remembers. All her neighbors were white, all her friends were white the lead characters in her favorite television shows were white. As a student, she recalls reading only a handful of books that featured nonwhite perspectives titles such as To Kill a Mockingbird or Huckleberry Finn come to mind. But even when those novels featured people of color, she realized, the books were often written by white authors who failed to portray the Black characters with depth and thoughtfulness.

Pennsylvania students are suffering from the state s epic fail on pandemic schooling

Print this article Just in time for National School Choice Week, hundreds of parents in suburban Philadelphia’s Chester County have organized a movement challenging COVID-19 restrictions against in-person learning for K-12 students. Pennsylvania’s pandemic-era education policies are fueling this revolt. Last April, in the early stages of the crisis, Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf ordered all private and public schools closed for the duration of the 2019–2020 school year. In the 2020–2021 school year that commenced last fall, school districts have gained some latitude to reopen their buildings, but these districts still face many excessive regulatory requirements. This is evident in Chester County, where parents must grapple with the reality of children attending classes in person no more than twice a week.
