CHARLESTON, W.Va. West Virginia’s delegates in the U.S. House of Representatives voted against impeaching President Donald Trump for a second time, as lawmakers on Wednesday approved the impeachment resolution.
The House voted 232-197 to impeach Trump, a week after a mob supporting the president led a violent demonstration at the U.S. Capitol. The resolution charges the president for inciting the insurrection by repeating false statements about widespread voter fraud, including during a speech in front of the White House before the riot.

Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and Peter Welch (D-VT) followed party lines when submitting their votes in the U.S. House, a move widely expected among political experts given both legislators voting records and previous comments on the process. In a statement delivered on the U.S. House floor prior to the vote, Welch cited perceived acts of insurrection by the president as a driving force behind his vote in favor of impeachment. If we want unity, we must have accountability, Welch said. Congress must impeach. Stefanik, the North Country s sole U.S. House member, did not give a statement on the floor.
