Perhaps this won’t surprise many, but it might make a few Republicans a little less comfortable on the floor of Congress today. Soon-to-be Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has arranged to be among the first, if not
the first, to object to any challenges to electors from fellow Republicans today. As Fox News reports, McConnell has tried to keep the conflict private, but plans to open up his guns today:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is expected to rebuke the GOP challenge to certify the Electoral College results for President-elect Joe Biden on Wednesday, sources tell Fox News. If so, it would be his first public statement against President Trump’s supporters in Congress on the matter.

Pence officially declared Biden the winner at 3:41 a.m. EST. Not long after, Trump released a statement through a White House social media account, acknowledging Biden s win, a first. Trump, who had steadfastly refused to concede the election, said in a statement immediately after the vote there âwill be an orderly transition of power on inauguration day.
âEven though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,â Trump said in a statement posted to twitter by an aide.
Pence had reopened the Senate after the harrowing day and directly addressed the demonstrators: âYou did not win.â
Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the âfailed insurrectionâ underscored lawmakersâ duty to finish the count. Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Congress would show the world âwhat America is made of with the outcome.
