Belfast The Climate Crisis Committee released part one of a Climate Action Plan April 9, calling for a policy that rejects any new natural gas pipelines proposed in the city and proposing a new anti-pollution ordinance.
The report also recommends the city:
implement a heat pump program requiring the replacement of all oil or gas heating systems in city buildings with heat pumps;

Friends of Sears Island and the Belfast Free Library will co-sponsor a live Zoom presentation titled “Stranded! Marine Mammal Response in the Northern Half of Maine” by Rosemary Seton of Allied Whale, College of the Atlantic, on Tuesday, April 27, at 6:30 p.m.
Seton will discuss the logistics of stranding response in the region Allied Whale covers, which is Midcoast Maine (Rockland) to the Canadian border. She will present the usual suspects of marine mammal species people find on and off the shores, what to do if you find a marine mammal in distress, and will also include a few cases from Sears Island with which she has dealt over the years.

The Belfast Free Library will host a virtual tick talk with Dr. Bea Szantyr on Tuesday, May 4, at 6:30 p.m. This presentation, Lyme Disease 101 will cover the essentials of prevention and early recognition of Lyme disease.
