Charlotte Nicdao
We re commemorating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by honoring the many AAPI leaders and creators who have made major contributions to television!
Mythic Quest star Charlotte Nicdao highlights eight TV programs that celebrate the history and impact of AAPI culture, and also inspired her successful career.
The Mindy Project
A sitcom created by and starring an Indian-American woman in 2012! This felt like the beginning of seeing Asian characters as important and funny in their own right, not as an accessory to a white lead.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
So cool to see what felt at first like a color blind casting of romantic lead Josh, then lean into the specificity of his Filipino heritage.

A star-studded coalition of actors, musicians, athletes and activists will come together this week to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month on national television.
In addition to spotlighting the history and contributions of Asian Americans, MTV’s “See Us Unite for Change” special will also address the recent increase in anti-Asian violence in the United States amid the COVID-19 pandemic through speeches and performances by prominent figures of Asian descent.
“Over the past year, we’ve witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of discrimination, violence and hate towards the AAPI community,” said Sheila Lirio Marcelo, executive producer of the Asian American Foundation’s See Us Unite campaign.

Stages dark, actors scattered, and plays cancelled, postponed, or reimagined as Zoom productions: This has been the bleak reality for DC’s theater scene during the past 14 months. Though some mainstays like Shakespeare Theatre Company and GALA Hispanic Theatre were able to secure waivers from the mayor to host occasional outdoor and/or socially distant performances, most theaters pivoted to online formats and scrambled to find creative ways to keep their audiences (safely) engaged. But Washington’s stages are finally preparing for IRL shows once again. Here’s what we know so far.
