Various Upcoming Pike County Spring Cleanup Events Announced

With Springtime now officially upon us, the Pike County Solid Waste District will be sponsoring a variety of environmental cleanup events beginning this month. The first of these events is the County Wide Appliance and Electronics Clean-up Event, which is going on now through April 16. This event is being held by the Pike County Solid Waste District Office, and electronic appliance pickup may be arranged by calling the office through 3pm on April 15. Those looking for more info on this event may contact Kelsey Chapman at the Solid Waste Office at 740-947-4104. The next event that will be held in this series is the Scrap Tire Collection Event. This event will be held on April 17 beginning at 8am and will last until 12pm.

OSU Extension to hold life skills program in Pike County

The Ohio State University’s Pike County Extension office will be holding a “Life Skills for Success!” program for Pike County’s youth beginning in April. The program, which is open to all students in grades 6-8, will be held at the Pike County Fairgrounds in Piketon and will include multiple sessions to help promote a positive lifestyle for young people. The program being used is from “Botvin LifeSkills” and includes the following topics: Self-Image & Self-Improvement, Making Decisions, Smoking: Myths and Realities, Alcohol: Myths and Realities, Violence and the Media, Coping with Anxiety, Coping with Anger, Communication and Social Skills, Assertiveness, and Resolving Conflicts.

East St Louis Man Arrested After Pursuit From Pike County Into Missouri

By Benjamin Cox on February 9, 2021 at 5:56pm An East St. Louis man on release from prison is facing multiple charges after a car chase led police from Pike County into Missouri. According to the Journal Courier, shortly after 6PM on Friday, February 5 th a Pike County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted a traffic stop on a Ford Explorer near Monroe Street in Pittsfield, but the driver sped off. According to police reports, the deputy pursued the vehicle east to near Detroit, when the driver turned around and headed back towards Pittsfield. In a press release from Sheriff David Greenwood, the Pike County deputy terminated pursuit due to safety concerns. At approximately 6:30PM, a Pleasant Hill police officer spotted the vehicle on County Highway 11 and pursued it as it went through a residential area and the Pike County Fairgrounds and then onto Illinois Route 96. At that time another Pike County Deputy joined the pursuit and followed the vehicle into Missouri.
