Putnam County Health Department Seeks Input from Unvaccinated Residents Written by Putnam County Department of Health
The Putnam County Department of Health has launched a COVID-19 vaccine survey to gather feedback from those who remain unvaccinated in the community. Vaccine supplies have increased and now everyone 16 years and older who lives, works, or attends school in New York State is eligible to receive a free COVID-19 vaccine.
“The health department wants to make sure that everyone who is eligible has a chance to get a vaccine,” stated Michael J. Nesheiwat, MD, Commissioner of Health for Putnam County. “People may remain unvaccinated due to individual time constraints, lack of access, a limited understanding of the risks of COVID, or just a more general vaccine hesitancy. Dr. Nesheiwat continued, the results of this survey will be used to guide our department into better focusing on, and addressing, the needs of our unvaccinated citizens. Moreov
Los Angeles County will be adjusting our Health Officer Order shortly to align with the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on when and where people need to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The CDC new recommendations support the continued need for everyone, including those fully vaccinated, to wear masks while in crowds where 6-feet of distance from other persons is not possible, while at large events and gatherings, and in indoor settings where unvaccinated people may be present. Because COVID-19 can still easily spread, unvaccinated people, who remain at highest risk of becoming infected, need to continue wearing masks in all settings where they are around people not in their household.

Out of an abundance of caution, Los Angeles County is following the recommendation of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to pause the use of Johnson & Johnson vaccine after reports that six women between the ages of 18 and 48 developed unusual types of blood clots 6 to 13 days after receiving the vaccine.
This pause will last until the FDA and CDC complete their review, which is expected to take several days. Vaccine providers in Los Angeles County will contact patients about rescheduling or providing a new appointment for Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
These reactions are extremely rare, as nearly 7,000,000 people have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the United States to date. People who received the vaccine in the last 3 weeks should look for any symptoms of these unusual clots, including severe headaches, abdominal or leg pain, and shortness of breath, and contact their medical provider if symptoms develop.
