LANSING Before he was shot and killed, Larry Fields family said he was walking home from a relative s birthday party on Lansing s east side, a plate of leftover cake in his hands.
The cheerful 60-year-old lived just a few blocks away and his sisters had begged him to let them drive him home. But he refused, Victoria Wiltrout, one of Fields seven sisters, said.
It was a walk he d done hundreds of times before, so they let him go, Wiltrout said. He made it up the street and turned a corner. Then they heard five shots.
Surveillance video later showed Fields had just turned onto Climax Street when he was attacked, Wiltrout said. She said she doesn t know what the shooter s motive was.
Police: Lansing man, 93, beaten to death by son s friend
LANSING A 93-year-old Lansing man was beaten to death by a friend of his son, police said.
Micah Davis, 33, attacked Emil Hernandez, 60, several hours after they had gotten into an argument about Davis leaving his bike at Hernandez s house Dec. 30, Lansing Police Officer Dustin Belill wrote in an affidavit that led to criminal charges against Davis.
Davis pushed his way into Hernandez s home, tried to strangle him and hit him in the head with a glass decoration, Belill wrote. Hernandez tried to defend himself with a baseball bat, but Davis grabbed it and hit Hernandez several times with it.
