Khupe Seeks Mnangagwa Assistance Over Mwonzora Fraud ?

By Staff Reporter FORMER MDC-T interim leader, Thokozani Khupe Sunday presumably rang Thabani Mpofu, the head of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Special Anti-Corruption Unit (Sacu) for “assistance” amid indications she could have been seeking to turn in under-fire party secretary general Douglas Mwonzora for embezzling the opposition formation’s funds disbursed by government under the Political Parties Finance Act.. But she did this via an embarrassing howler which saw her instead ring another Thabani Mpofu, who is MDC Alliance lawyer and very close confidante to Nelson Chamisa. Chamisa, the MDC Alliance leader, is a bitter rival to Khupe as the two have wrangled fiercely before for the opposition top job.

Mwonzora skeletons tumble | The Standard

Mwonzora skeletons tumble December 27, 2020 in Local ASPIRING MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora was yesterday exposed by one of his top allies who described him as “a deceitful and crooked trickster” as the fight for the presidency reaches a chaotic climax ahead of the party’s extraordinary congress expected today. BY EVERSON MUSHAVA/RICHARD MUPONDE Partson Murimoga, who was behind the first lawsuit challenging the late MDC founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s appointment of Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri as his co-deputies alongside Thokozani Khupe in 2016, claimed that Mwonzora was behind the court action. Murimoga lost the lawsuit after the High Court ruled that he was not qualified to challenge Tsvangirai’s appointments. But a year later, party activist Elias Mashavira used the same arguments to successfully challenge Chamisa and Mudzuri’s appointments at the same court.

Congress: MDC-T Turns To ZUPCO As Party Funds Vanish From Bank Account

By Robert Tapfumaneyi THE MDC-T has made some “special arrangements” with public transporter, ZUPCO to ferry delegates to its extraordinary congress in Harare this Sunday amid reports of some missing party funds. Despite being paid money under the Political Parties Finance Act a paltry $500 000 is reported to be now in the MDC-T bank account. The party had received US$60 000 from the Treasury. The amount is almost equivalent to $5 800 000 using the official exchange rate. Some delegates told NewZimbabwe.com ahead of the event that the party was forced to enter into a last-minute agreement with ZUPCO with promises to settle the debt within two weeks.

Khupe gets new windfall

Mnangagwa and Khupe Government has once again snubbed the MDC Alliance after it disbursed a total $76 million to Zanu-PF and MDC-T interim leadership. Of this amount Zanu-PF received $61 million while the MDC got nearly $15 million under the Political Parties Finance Act, which sanctions the disbursement of funds to major political parties in Parliament. In July, government also released $25 million, which was shared between Zanu-PF and MDC-T. This comes as the MDC is involved in a zero-sum internal war over the control of the country’s main opposition party. Source – Daily News

Khupe party in flames …as ZCTU snubs MDC-T  - Zimbabwe Situation

Khupe party in flames. . .…as ZCTU snubs MDC-T  BY MOSES MATENGA THE Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) yesterday distanced itself from MDC-T’s extraordinary congress, delivering a blow to the beleaguered party which was seeking to associate itself with the largest labour movement in the country as internal fissures widened over alleged fraud by its interim secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora. Some party members want Mwonzora suspended for dipping into the party coffers and allegedly “siphoning” $300 000 ahead of the congress where he will battle it out with Thokozani Khupe, party interim chairperson Morgen Komichi and his deputy Elias Mudzuri. The opposition party, largely formed out of the labour movement, on Monday said it met the ZCTU leadership to sign a code of conduct among other things, but the country’s biggest labour union delivered the jab yesterday, saying it won’t be part of the congress.
